Blog Entry 16 – Magazine Spreads

This article if from a Newsweek Magazine.  What makes this article successful is the brightness of the sparks.  The sparks draws attentions and they lead your eyes from left to right.  The article being nicely aligned vertically up and down it what you see after the sparks have lead your eyes.  And to top it off having the works Sparks fly as a bold type for a heading makes the reader more interested.


This article is from a Scientific American magazine.  What makes this article successful is the bright colors all over the page. It draws attention very easily.  Also the image in the middle of the right side is something very interesting and something that a reader would like to know more about why it is there.  Also the type that says "A measure of the creativity of a nation is how well it works with those beyond its boarders" is a quote that stand out from the nice aligned text to make other interested in the article.

This article is from Sports Illustrated.  What makes this article successful is the boldness of the title that ties into the boldness of the player in the picture.  By having that go together it already makes the reader want to know who the person is that is a "game changer".  Also the fact the picture is not bounded but type is on top of the picture makes the article more exciting to dive into.

This article is from the Gameinformer magazine.  What makes this article successful is the famous diamond shapes that Maxis is always known for.  By putting their type and picture in the diamonds makes the article so much more appealing to read.  Also by have the green color bolded "T" is another classic Maxis move that just shows their loyalty to the company.  by having 25 years clearly stated they must be doing something right that readers will love to read about.



This article is from the Scientific American magazine. What makes this article is the title combined with the really interesting images.  The images look like something irregular which is already going to pull in readers. Combine that with the title being fancy and scientific looking readers are going to see what Cosmic Collisions is all about.  To top it off the article has heading to the nicely aligned type to break down what this scientific thing is all about to readers that know nothing about the topic.
